Kadalai Chutney Podi / Peanut Powder

Peanut, has been considered as more fatty food.. There is a proverb in Tamil saying "Alavirkku minjinaal amirthamum nanju."  So, here comes the truth. It is 1 to 2 oz of peanuts taken 4-5 times in a week, help lower heart disease by 25%. Its also considered to be the most protein rich among the nuts. Sesame seeds, rich in copper and manganese and other nutrition., also contains fibers which help reduce cholesterol, and so prevents high blood pressure. It also protects our liver from oxidation damage.

Tastes and Smells Yummy., the Peanut Chutney Podi.

Ingredients:
  • Peanuts - 1 cup
  • White Sesame Seeds - 1/4 cup
  • Dry  Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Garlic pods - 4 nos.
  • Dry red Chillies - 10-12nos.
  • Tamarind - small bouncy ball size or even less
  • Salt - To Taste


Procedure:
  • Heat a wide opened pan and roast peanuts till You get nice aroma and oil coated on it outer layer. Coo them and blanch it.. Here I used blanched peanuts..

  • Dry roast sesame seeds, let the seeds pop. Add them to the peanuts.
  • Dry roast the dry coconut powder till golden brown. Add it to the roasted mixture

  • Dry roast dry red chillies. Put them along with the roasted items.
  • Smash the garlic pods, a little and roast them a minute.. Mix with the roasted ingredients.
  • Add tamarind and salt to this roasted mixture.

Let the mixture cool down for a while and dry grind them in a mixer., to a powder, not so fine...Let the powder cool down and store it in an air tight container.




Taste them with rice or Idly, Dosa, with oil . Or even sprinkle them over Bread toasts, Naan, Salads and use it up to your taste and imagination.
